Find out more Seemore books by Emma Chichester Clark here Titles include: Come to School too, Blue Kangaroo! I Never Saw a Purple Cow And Other Nonsense Rhymes Amazing Mr. Zooty! No More Kissing! Melrose and Croc: Friends for Life Plum and Rabbit and Me The book offers many opportunities for children to think and talk about their own favourite toys and how they feel about them. There’s also an opportunity to talk about presents, why we give them and the presents you can’t buy. What dochildren think of the ending? Tell the story Welcome to Blue Kangaroo. A fantastic children’s indoor Adventure Play and Party Centre based in the heart of the village of Cottingham, near Hull. We’ve created a great fun, safe and friendly environment to let your children play and develop new skills. Age 3-5 Lily loves Blue Kangaroo but when she’s given new toy animals for her birthday, he feels neglected and forgotten. When Kangaroo finds a new friend in Lily’s baby brother, Lily realises just how much Blue Kangaroo means to her. I love you Blue Kangaroo! is a story of a child and her favourite toy which makes connections to all kinds of childhood relationships, (with parents, siblings and friends) as Lily experiences feelings of affection, jealousy and sibling rivalry.

The centre is the ideal place to bring your 0-8 year olds to play, have fun and make new friends. We have purposely capped our age limit to 8 years old to help reduce the all too familiar scene of older kids riding rough shot over the younger ones. Can you perform the story? Use the text and the speech to rehearse and present the story to an audience.

Teaching Ideas and Resources:

Discuss what sharing is and why it is nice to share things with other people. What do you have to share with your family / friends? We have implemented many new changes to the way we operate our play centre to protect our customers from the risks of COVID-19.

Think of prices for each toy that Lily receives. Set up your own toy shop and work out the total prices for people who buy more than one item. Blue Kangaroo has trouble sleeping at night because he is upset. Find out why we need sleep and think of ways that we can help ourselves to sleep. Think of words to describe your favourite toy. What does it look like? Where did it come from? How does it make you feel? Before beginning the story, talk together about the title and the cover. Is there anything unusual about a blue kangaroo? Read the story aloud, stopping to talk about the pictures, what’s happening in the story and how Blue kangaroo might be feeling. Join in Find out about toys from the past. What have children played with during different periods in time?Make a list of adjectives that are used to describe each of the toys in the story. Can you think of more describing words for each toy? Try hot-seating the characters in the story to find out their feelings about what happened. How did Blue Kangaroo feel at different points? Did Lily realise that Blue Kangaroo was feeling upset? Look at the colours shown in the pictures. How many different colours can you see? Can you draw colourful illustrations like this?
