Read more I will truly miss talking & laughing w/Randy, you are loved my Friend & will always be in our hearts. The people from F & C Door Read less I loved Jay Porter as a professional, as a creative genius, as a ball of energy and a human being above all. He made the most of his short time on earth. We will remember him in our new Chicago office as one of those who transformed Edelman. He was the best of us.

Among those connected people is Houston's mayor, the white woman whom Jay believes sold him out to the FBI when he was in college because of his political organizing. (He was also dating her, double trouble.) He almost went to prison then, and the scars from the experience never fully healed. So as we follow Jay in the present, we also learn about what happened *then* and the interconnections. given the electoral mayhem going on in the US right now, it was an interesting time for me to read this book and it felt like a good complement to the US's current election cycle. shenanigans, i tell you. shenanigans! In the "Big Mouth" world, hormones, feelings, and mental illness are personified through monsters, animals, and other creatures. Kroll voices two significant Hormone Monsters, creatures who guide people through the ups and down of puberty. Jay was held a hero for bringing down Cole Oil and he was still riding high off of that win, although he was beginning to sour on the current case he had pending. While fighting and dealing with a new beast threatening the lives of his new clients literally, a young girl is found dead during Election Night. This hit a little too close to home having a young teen himself. Who on earth would want this young teen dead? Now Jay is faced with another dilemma. Someone on the campaign trail is accused of this young lady’s murder. Several of the political players have called upon Jay for his expertise and literally begging him to help defend the young man accused of this crime. Well, that is, one political figure in particular seeks out Jay’s assistance for his nephew, who is the one being accused of the heinous act. There’s murder, mayhem and political tug-of-wars so what’s not to love about this story, you ask? Hosting a long-running series on his TikTok alongside Poppy, Jay hunts for the UK’s best Sunday roast. Travelling to many pubs and restaurants across the country, the pair harshly review the highly sought-after Sunday roast in a commentary style over footage of them arriving at the restaurant as well as eating the food.Joe is the producer of Lip Service West, a reading “raw, gritty, real” series in Oakland, California, and works as acquisitions editor for Gutter Books. He has also edited two anthology books, one inspired by the music of Bruce Springsteen, while the other is inspired by Johnny Cash’s music. Creative at the Core—When he ran the Chicago office, Jay pioneered the use of creatives on all clients, from brand to corporate. He persisted in the revolution, which delivered big ideas to Dairy Management, Kellogg’s and Wolverine. He saw the future of Edelman as a communications firm competing with the ad agencies and digital firms as well as in classic PR. He mentored so many young Edelman executives who have gone on to glory whether at our firm or in other venues. They absorbed his obsession with excellence, his dedication to the big idea and his insistence that the work somehow improve society. Keep your head down, speak only when spoken to. A warning drilled into him every day of his life growing up in Nigton, Texas, née Nig Town, née Nigger Town (its true birth name when it sprang up a hundred years ago in the piney woods of East Texas).” Jay is repairing his life when a mysterious stranger comes to him with an offer that is too good to be true. A big bundle of cash in exchange for locating a missing teen boy who could have been abducted by a radical recovery group out in the northern New Hampshire wilds. Skeptical of gift horses and uninterested in reenlisting in the local war on drugs and so he passes on the offer. The very next day, his boss is discovered beaten and left for dead, with Jay being painted as the main suspect. Jay Porter, beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend passed from this life on November 2, 2021 from complications related to chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He was 48 years old. I used to know someone who referred to some folks who fit that category as being a shark in a goldfish bowl. The problem that Jay discovers is that those type of sharks will do just about anything to maintain their sharkitude. This is a truth that I must face: I do not like murder mysteries, detective novels, or police procedurals. I have so seldom read one that pleased me or was memorable that I should know going in that I am wasting precious time. It does not matter if the author can write. This one can and I gave her a point for that. It does not matter because I hate the cliche of the missing girl, the sexual predator, the clever cop/lawyer/whatever, the last minute save, the slang language. It definitely hurt. Definitely didn't want to hear that from my parents, but I knew it was from good intentions. And they were right because if I didn't, I don't think I'd be in this position right now." Porter Jr. has more than handled expectations. He's navigated a journey of immeasurable pressure, and he might've gotten help from his dad to get here, but he's undeniably his own individual. He's brought up probably every meeting I've been in," Porter Jr. said with a wide grin at the combine. "Just, 'How'd you grow up with him? How was it? Was he in your corner?' Simple stuff I was just asked today. He's brought up a lot. No big deal." He had abandoned that strategy somewhat as a college student at the University of Houston, where he had been active in the civil rights movement and had rubbed shoulders with people like Stokely Carmichael and Huey Newton. But as a lawyer, he had other priorities:

Jay starts looking into Emily’s disappearance, and finds that everybody that knew Emily swear she has never used drugs. She is a straight shooter and is interning at a newspaper that is investigating the Center and the horrible secret hidden either in it or beneath it. In 2021, 3.4% of NFL players were second-generation players, an increase from 1.8% in 2001 and 1.0% in 1981. My thanks to Lawyer and the other fine folks at the On the Southern Literary Trail group for giving me the opportunity to read and discuss this and many other fine books. While Porter Sr. wants his son to stand on his own in the football world, it's hard for NFL teams to talk to the younger Porter without mentioning his dad. Porter Sr. isn't worried about his son because he's been preparing him for these moments his whole life. There's no need to cram for the test when every day was a study in how to be a professional. Somehow I thought this book was a mystery. But the real mystery is Jay Porter...why he doesn't connect with his wife whom he loves, who loves him, and on whom he hangs his whole future. So saddened to hear of your great loss, I knew Randy ... Read more through my son Bryan who I worked for, he and Randy became very close friends, he began to feel like a son to me and although I have not seen him for about four years there is a soft spot in my heart for him and I will never forget his energetic outgoing and lovable personality. My heart goes out to all his family and friends, especially his daughters, he will be with you in your hearts forever. Read less

This is a compelling read with a fantastic protagonist, and is more nuanced than a typical by-the-numbers detective tale. Jay is a highly sympathetic and self-aware character and is one readers are sure to root for the entire way through. He and his brother have their own demons, and their relationship is not all that perfect, yet they have a lot of love for each other. It has a true to life ending and is not one to be overlooked.Jay is able to get his brother released from the county jail and Chris goes missing into the night. While Jay starts to look for him, he gets pulled into a cauldron of old secrets and ugly lies that may tear his tiny hometown apart and threaten the Jay’s life as well as everyone’s that he holds dear. Some powerful forces come into play that are willing to stop at nothing until Chris is finally dead and the info he has is destroyed. Give Up the Dead” is the third novel in the “Jay Porter” series, which was released in the year 2017. Three years have gone by since Jay Porter, estate clearing handyman came close to losing his life after a devastating accident on the thin ice on Echo Lake. His work uncovering a kids-for-cash scandal might have made Ashton, New Hampshire safer, but nothing is ever without a price. The uncredited, traumatic events cost Jay his son and his wife, and now he has a permanent leg injury. Sharing a last name and a bloodline with an NFL great, though, doesn't mean the second-generation's path is an express lane to the pros. An NFL dad isn't a cheat code, and it doesn't allow their sons to skip the hours of practice, film study and weight training. The political undertones of this novel did not improve it for me. Unfortunately, I had issues with that part as well. No use in going into those.
