This edition of 12” 80s presents part one of 1982 – such massive year for Pop that we had to split this year into two parts to present all of the essential tracks. Celebrated hits from Tina Turner and Blondie precede legendary Pop from Sinitta, Hazell Dean, Tight Fit and Baltimora, before Stars On 45’s salute to ABBA and bringing the disc to a close with UB40’s enduring ‘Red Red Wine’. The idea is clearly to spotlight hits from the decade that enjoyed significant success Stateside, some of which did well in the UK as well, but others that didn’t.

The debut hit from Bjork’s band The Sugarcubes with ‘Birthday’ follows, before David Sylvian’s ‘Pop Song’, and ‘Flowers’ from Zaine Griff (featuring Kate Bush on backing vocals).The album debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200 album chart, selling just under 34,000 copies in its first week.
