I was lost sometimes during the investigator chapters trying to keep up which character was who, but soon it all fell into place and it was smooth reading from then on. There’s ultimately a lot made of the fact that Thomas and Viv strive obsessively to appear ‘perfect’ to the outside world. There’s some good old-fashioned detective work which takes the investigation forward until the finale which, whilst not wholly a surprise, was one of several possibilities that I was considering. The secrets make you wait for them to get worse, more interesting, worth the kind of events that occurring – and spoiler, they aren’t worth it.

I liked that there were a few suspects in this case, so although I had my suspicions, I was never completely sure. Thomas dismisses it as the work of a few out-of-control kids, but when a smoke bomb is tossed on their front lawn, and the tires on their BMW are punctured, he begins to worry. The haunting stories I've selected are on the themes of love, loss and learning to live for the day. I’ve been reading some terrible books lately and needed something to grip me and get me over this awful slump. Never ceases to amaze me how people can live together for decades, yet keep so many secrets from each other. Couldn’t warm to any of the characters, didn’t really believe in any of them but was keen to know how it ended and it did keep me reading well in to the night. The audiobook reflects Rhonda’s own journey and shares the most direct way out for those experiencing hardship and the path to end pain and suffering endured by so many, and it shines a light on a future without anxiety or fear.From the police to neighbors to the Adlers themselves, I found the reactions and the consequences a bit too much for suspended disbelief to hold. So apart from the obvious solving of a serious crime, the book also examines the effect of trauma on people's psyche, and also the damage caused by keeping secrets. The novel begins by introducing you to Gemma, who at first instance appears to be your average student, faced with the familiar horrifying realisation, at the eleventh hour, that her graduation outfit is all wrong. Gemma is a working mum who often feels pulled in all directions and I completely identify with that! Throughout the book, he insinuates that Gemma should be the one to work less and have more responsibility for the housework and childcare. Knowing Sadie’s inner thoughts leaves a feeling of anticipation and dread and the reader is invited to imagine how Gemma will react.
