About this deal

Lea loves Harry...or at least she's convinced she does. Just as she has convinced herself she is happy when it is clear she is not. Nothing in her life has turned out the way she thought and she finds herself a mother too young and tied down at twenty six. She is largely dissatisfied and has no idea what to do about it. I hardly think marrying Harry is the solution but she seems to think it is. But Harry isn't who she thinks he is...and he has become increasingly secretive and controlling. Ms. Lees has been working a career in video-games journalism, dialing into the world’s most popular video games. In her spare time she is, of course, writing books, but also playing games and reading, preferring stories that are 50/50 terrifying and emotional. Ms. Lees is partial to fantasy and crime fiction. This psychological thriller has two timelines. The tension and secrets mount with each chapter. The reader feels all the oppressive anxieties the characters do. OK, so firstly, THAT alone brings the rating down for me. Why kill an animal so brutally? Why kill it at all? To me, it is senseless. I know it fitted in with the context of the story and by the end it did make a whole lot of sense but still...killing a dog, let alone bashing its head in with a shovel, is a big no no and my rating down will reflrect this. The Theory of (Not Quite) Everything by Kara Gnodde is a tender, intelligent and uplifting novel about love in all its forms, and how life is more than just a numbers game . . .

What a twisty story! I genuinely had no idea how this was going to end! A dark domestic thriller, where nobody is who they seem. Easily Ms. Lees’ best one yet.’⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The characters in ‘The Lost Wife’ are what truly draw you into the story. Our protagonist is a flawed, yet utterly relatable woman, whose life has been turned upside down by her husband’s secret. As the story develops, it becomes evident that each of them is trapped within their own emotional turmoil, struggling against the grim reality of their lives. Watching these characters navigate the treacherous webs of deception adds a layer of tension that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The present is set during Lea and Harry's wedding day and is about a woman on the run. I can't say too much about this, but you feel that certain things are not right. I found the atmosphere mysterious and the tension was slowly built up. The alternation between the past and the present was nice, but I found the plot a bit disappointing, despite a number of plot twists. When I found out who you really were, I surprised you, didn't I? That's why we're here, because your favourite thing about me was that, as you said, 'You're always full of surprises.' You underestimated me, Harry, made me your puppet, satisfied me when I needed satisfying, but you went too far, and so did I. We never should have gotten married; that day should never have been allowed to happen. I guess if we spoke, if we used words, it wouldn't have. Because our worst trait, our shared deplorable quality, is that we're liars, to each other and to ourselves. So I absolutely loved Georgina Lees' writing in After the Party, but I felt she was trying too hard to make it a thriller and I, an insignificant reader, recommended she focus more on a character-driven story. Now, do I think Lees actually read my review and said Girlwiththepinkskimask, you right!!!?? No. But regardless, this book is definitely more character driven and less like its trying to fit the mold.

My first read by Lees and I would give her another read in the future. Just no killing of dogs, PLEASE!!

Art is trying to help Mimi find love in the tune of an altrgorohim. I found this an easy read but wasn't truly invest I'm the characters. For me the pacing is slow and I haven't felt a connect to Mimi or Art. I feel at times this book is a bit long winded. I was excited to read the book because I liked the premise. Unfortunately, I had difficulty with this book. The Theory of Not Quite Everything When Emily goes missing Suzie may be the one person who knows her the best. After all, she has heard everything through the thin walls and floors. Everything. Suzie may be the only one to be able to save her. Ms. Lees’s following thriller, After the Party, is an equally suspenseful, edgy book full of obsessions and secrets. Forever three years Lizzie has been in love with Dean. They are colleagues but he’s never given her a second look. There was also a big twist which I actually hadn’t seen coming so that was well done and then the conclusion did manage to give me some closure but I wasn’t a fan of the letter. Overall this was a decent well written psychological thriller it just didn’t have any feel-good vibes to it so was equally quite depressing. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of The Lost Wife.

Life will never be the same again. She will never be the same because she never really knew her husband." I would like to thank GeorginaLees, #Netgalley and #OneMoreChapter for an ARC of #TheLostWife in exchange for an honest review. Georgina Lees was born writing, or so it seems. She started as a little girl scribbling in notepads, graduating to pounding on keyboards. At university, she started fulfilling her destiny by studying creative writing and also film. There is a twist at the end of the book which I think is quite cleverly done and is probably its saving grace. The letter, however, I think was a bit drawn out and superfluous. I could have done without it. It took me 20 minutes to read it, that's how long it was. But it did manage to give some closure of sorts.

The plot is conveyed beneath a veil of claustrophobia in this somewhat grim novel since everyone is imprisoned in their own private emotional universe. Even a smidgeon of kindness and childlike innocence fails to untie this Gordian knot. This is my first time reading a book by Georgina Lees and all I can say is WOW! From cover to cover, I was hooked.' Suzie has become acquainted with her upstairs neighbor, Emily, not by meeting face to face and chatting, but by Suzie observing the coming and going of her rather unpleasant and self-absorbed neighbor. Fantastic book! Big praise to the author because I did not see that coming! Fantastic plot and well written. Could not put it down.’⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐EXCERPT: Do you know what I loved most about you, Harry? It was how little you spoke; you were all actions instead of words. You'd leave arguments before they even began. You'd kiss me instead of telling me you loved me. You'd not come home if you were mad at me. I got more from your actions than I ever did from your words, but they could not save you - save us - in the end. I didn't like the letter at the end. It didn't really clarify anything and was totally unnecessary. The lost wife' was fun to read and I want to say a big thank you to @netgalley for this review copy!
