Description

Chug chug chug, and the tug comes chugging into the harbour. What do you think he's got inside? Now, Mr Smith drives a lorry! Brrrmmm! Now what we want to do, Carmel, is to wind it up, that's right, keep going, now swing it over and drop it, right hold it there, hoist away! Up she comes. Pipkins decide to grow their own food, like people do in the country. But Uncle Hare, who has come to help, knows that country ways don’t always work in the town…. With everyone working, who is going to do the housework? The only one who could do it is Octavia, but she breaks everything with her feet. So they advertise for a housekeeper…. If plants are alive, like we are, perhaps they can walk about, like us, thinks Topov. What would happen to his tree house, if his tree walked away?

Uncle Hare takes Mrs P into town and finds he likes his own hollow much better. But Mrs P likes one place they visit….where they keep fish on ice! If the window is open, Hartley can look out, but the rain comes in. When the window is shut, the sun comes in through the glass.... a tour of a supermarket (puppets precariously balanced around rim of trolley and on bloke’s shoulders as elderly shoppers looked on, askance); He handed me the Queen. I was totally stumped, and then all that came to mind was this nursery poem that Hartley Hare did, using his voice. It was so bizarre that it fitted in very well, and I stayed there for 13 years. Pig has his own way of seeing that everyone has a fair share of the food and drink- which means he get's more than the others...Witches are about at Pipkins. Doors shut without anyone touching them and there are strange clankings and creakings. It gets so bad that a visitor wishes he had never called........ Have Pipkins really forgotten Mrs P’s birthday, as she thinks? Or are they planning a surprise for her? Mr Pipkin receives a letter from Fred but Hartley is disappointed because no one ever sends him a letter. Topov and Johnny think it’s time to put this right…. Pig makes an invention that ensures everyone receives an equal share of food. but he get's more than the others. Has he arranged it on purpose? Topov is the only one who hasn't a place of his own. So the others decide to make him a tree house as a surprise

Everyone is going for a picnic in the woods. Hartley prepares delicious things to eat while Topov plans to bring all his toys and comics. But it’s too much to carry on one bike, as Topov learns…. The Pipkins make toys for children in hospital, and Hartley learns to be careful when using glue............

Creamguide Review of the Year: 2022

Hartley is a poet, so the whole world has to know it-and he soon becomes very boring................. Pig is teaching Hartley how to box with a punchball. Hartley is not finding it easy because you need to see what you hitting when you are boxing. Pig laughs so much that something unexpected happens.... Floor Managers RICHARD HOLLOWAY, GEORGE PORTWAY, SEAN O'FARRELL, GEOFF SAX, PAT NAPPER, GUY FRAZER-JONES, RICHARD JONES

As the weather changes, one gets too hot or too cold. But a hare can’t wear thinner fur, and a Tortoise can’t come out of his shell, so they have to think of other ways of keeping cool… In 1974, in a first for children's television, the death of Inigo was worked into the programme, predating the Mr Hooper episode on Sesame Street by nine years. From this episode onwards, the show was renamed Pipkins and Inigo's assistant, Johnny ( Wayne Laryea), took over. The direction of the programme had to change; from here on, the show ceased to centre around a puppet workshop and the characters became the 'Help People', helping anyone in need of a hand. Similarly, another episode "Death of a Goldfish" dealt with the topic of death, in regards to losing a pet. Topov the monkey and Johnny discussed why the goldfish died and why people die. Pipkins are asked to put on a play. This they all want to do, trouble is that they all want to be the star! Hartley however, knows who is going to write it…. He is! He has no idea where the voice and quirky mannerisms came from, but Nigel developed them over time as additional characters made their first Pipkins appearances, puppeteered by co-star Heather Tobias. Imagine there was once a pirate near Pipkins who had forgotten where he had buried his treasure............When strong winds blow a gentleman into Pipkins, Hartley comes up with an idea to stop him being blown away................... It's holiday time for Pipkins, and they are camping in the woods. Everyone has a job to do, and they are all happy. At least, almost everyone....Octavia can’t stand the mud!
