About this deal

Sipsmith Vodka was founded in 2009 by Sam Galsworthy and Fairfax Hall. Sipsmith is the first copper-pot distilled vodka distillery in London since 1820. Sipsmith Vodka is made using a 300 year old recipe and only the finest ingredients. The name Sipsmith comes from the traditional term “sipper”, which was used to describe those who enjoyed drinking high quality spirits. What Does Sipsmith Vodka Taste Like? Fast forward to 2020 and a new wave of international vodka makers are shaking things up by focusing on the character of the base material (wheat, barley, rye, corn, potato) and allowing its flavour profile to shine through in the final drink. Gin is thought to have been first produced in Italy, but gained popularity as a medicine in early 17th-century Holland.

Forsyth said major spirit companies were moving to buy out producers at a relatively early stage in their development, after letting craft beer startups gain market share before they began buying them up. Sipsmith Gin is distilled using Sipsmith vodka as its base - namely English barley neutral spirit which has been redistilled in Prudence, a 300-litre copper pot still. The spirit is diluted to 60% alc./vol. with purifiedwater before the botanicals are added. Yes, Sipsmith Vodka is gluten free. The vodka is made with 100% British wheat and is distilled using traditional methods. Sipsmith does not use any gluten-containing ingredients in the production of its vodka, so you can enjoy it without worry. What Can You Mix Sipsmith Vodka With? In May 2017, Sipsmith partnered with the secret London culinary boutique Gingerline to create an «immersive gin dinner». [8] Activities [ edit ] The first five litres of distillate to emerge from the still are discarded (around 2 per cent of the run), with hearts starting to coming over at around 91% alc./vol. These run for about two hours before the cut to tails at around 85% alc./vol.. The decision on when to switch to tails is purely made on smell and taste, although they know within a window of around 15 minutes when this will need to be made.Though it wasn’t quite as simple as that. Y’see, when the Sipsmith chaps tried to get a licence, they were planning for their Hammersmith-based outfit to be quite small indeed, which HMRC wasn’t too excited about (not the technical term, obviously). It took over two years of lobbying for the law to be changed and Sipsmith to be granted their licence. Not only did it mean they were able to start making their own drinks, it also allowed many others to open their own distilleries too! Sipsmith London Cup (29% ABV): a type of fruit cups with Lemon Verbena, Rose petals, Borage and Earl grey released in August 2011 Sipsmith was established in London in 2009. The first copper-pot based distillery to start up in London in 189 years, it is one of only four gin distilleries located in London. [2] The Beefeater Gin Distillery (established by the John Burrough's Company in 1863), Thames Distillers, Sacred Microdistillery, The London Distillery Company and Sipsmith are the only remaining licensed distilleries in the nation's capital.

Sipsmith's copper pot still, 'Prudence' was built by Germany's oldest distillery fabricator, Christian Carl. Sam and Fairfax opted for an all-copper still as they believe the metal contributes to mouth-feel and texture, even though there is little sulphate in the high quality neutral spirit they use to charge the still.

More Alternatives…

Gin became so widely consumed that the amount sold daily began to exceed that of beer. It was a cheap drink drunk by the poor. The makers of Sipsmith gin are so passionate about their tipple, they brought about a change in the law so they could create it. When co-founders Sam Galsworthy, Fairfax Hall and Jared Brown began their distillation journey in 2008, it was only possible to get a licence to produce the spirit in large quantities. So, they petitioned the government to permit artisans to brew in smaller, more characterful batches. And so the gin-aissance began.
