Remembering that Nana can speak to animals, she goes to find her but runs into Rito. Circumstances then force Rito to give Haruna a bath, which becomes too much stimulation for her, causing Haruna to revert to normal, albeit naked and on top of an also naked and unconscious Rito. In a visual novel this would be a non-issue since there every girl can just have her own route instead, but in linear mediums like manga and anime this is not really an option. So the only option you are left with here that could theoretically please everyone is a true harem ending, with the guy actually ending up in a committed relationship with all the girls simultaneously. But this essentially never happens because polygamy is unfortunately illegal in Japan, and also writing a story where such an insane development actually seems plausible is a lot easier said than done. But Darkness actually has a solution to both these problems (more on that later), and is thus able to make it work. To Love Ru ( Japanese: To LOVE （ とらぶ ）る, Hepburn: Toraburu) is a Japanese manga series written by Saki Hasemi and illustrated by Kentaro Yabuki. The manga was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine from April 2006 to August 2009, and the chapters collected into 18 tankōbon volumes. It chronicles the life of high school student Rito Yuuki after he meets and accidentally gets engaged to the alien princess Lala Satalin Deviluke. The title, Toraburu, is a pun on the English loan words toraburu ("trouble") and rabu ("love"), referencing the harem aspect of the series. To Love Ru is noted for its fan service, with Hasemi and Yabuki admitting that they tested the boundaries of what would be allowed in a shōnen manga.

A continuation of the manga called To Love Ru Darkness ( TO LOVE （ とらぶ ）る ダークネス, Toraburu Dākunesu) was serialized in Shueisha's Jump Square magazine from October 2010 to March 2017, and the chapters collected into 18 tankōbon volumes. Between 2012 and 2017, Xebec produced 10 OVA episodes and 26 anime television series episodes based on To Love Ru Darkness. The To Love Ru and To Love Ru Darkness manga series have over 16 million copies in circulation. To LOVE-Ru Darkness is the sequel to the first manga series in the To LOVE-Ru franchise.
